Appearance ;;
Not too big and not too small, Lightstar is nevertheless a very solidly built cat. He is of the thicker build typical of the forest cats, with very muscular legs and sturdy paws. On one end of the tom’s strong body is a medium-length tail, with fur that is slightly longer here than on the rest of the body. On the other end sits a proud, round, handsome face. Large but serious eyes, starkly gold in coloration, peer out above a well-built muzzle, complete with long whiskers and pinkish nose. Alert ears perch atop this cat’s head. The fur is short but smooth, a well-blended mixture of tan and cream, banded across the body in pale, sometimes unnoticeable stripes. Still, the back is distinctly darker than the chest. A unique scar is etched on the back of Lightstar’s neck where another cat once grabbed him, and a few more noticeable scars mar the tom’s hindquarters. Altogether, Lightstar has a regal, sturdy appearance, even if he is not particularly tall.
Personality ;;
Lightstar is that ambitious, confident cat who always thought, even from kithood, that he would make a great leader. First of all, this tom always hoped that he would become a leader, for he likes to feel that he is responsible and can operate fairly well under pressure. (He also likes to boss other cats around and take control of situations, though he does not so readily admit to this.) Of course, the cat does accept responsibility, even when it is for something he did wrong. He is honest, at the very least about himself. Still, he does not really like admitting he was wrong, and will try to justify his position in any way he can, occasionally pushing him to fight losing battles. He is opinionated and has a good deal of principle, based upon the warrior code, and he knows it. This is probably why he thinks he is always right. Lightstar is confident enough for that.
Though Lightstar is bossy and stubborn, he is quite amiable and easy to get along with, even when he disagrees with another cat. He is very friendly, and craves the company and attention of other cats. Actually, he strives to be likeable, and because of this, he has become very accepting of others, though he still tries to change their opinions to match his own. He will not hesitate to help a cat of any Clan, or even a cat not of a Clan, for he likes to do “the right thing.” When the cats around him are happy, Lightstar is happy. So long as he is not drawn into an argument, this cat can be very easy to get along with. He likes friends, and likes to have a lot of them.
Since Lightstar gained his lifelong ambition of becoming leader, he is working to be the best leader ThunderClan has ever known. He wants very much to impress other cats, from his Clan-mates to other Clans. If he could make all the right decisions, he would be the happiest cat. He is terrified of making a bad decision that ends up really hurting one of his Clan-mates. Also, he is terrified of very deep water, for he thinks drowning must be the absolute worst kind of death. Faith in StarClan and the warrior code are very important to Lightstar, not only for himself but for other cats.
History ;;
You couldn’t find a more respectable pair of cats in the whole of the forest than Goldenheart and Blazeface, the loyal warriors of ThunderClan. Nobody could possibly disapprove of their union. Perhaps they were not in love, but they had affection for each other, and their three sons were the recipients of their love. Eaglekit, Lightkit, and Webkit, born in that order, were raised with high expectations all around, though none of them wanted to fulfill those expectations as much as Lightkit. Thanks to an offhand comment by one elder, who meowed one day, “Lightkit, you’d make a good leader someday,” that tom got it into his head that he was going to be leader of ThunderClan. All of his energies, since that fateful statement, have been poured into being a great enough warrior to attain the leadership position.
As an apprentice, Lightpaw proved to be extremely talented in all respects. He was an excellent fighter, an outstanding hunter, a marvelous scout: everything two proud parents could hope for. He proved to be focused and a fast learner, and it almost seemed that he would become a warrior even before his two brothers. Lightpaw was blind to the jealousy of his two brothers, who thought he was a pompous, obnoxious know-it-all. Then, Eaglepaw lost one of his friends in a flood. To his surprise, it was Lightpaw who was the first to offer comfort and kindness, and Lightpaw who eventually helped his brother feel better about everything. Since then, Eaglepaw never looked upon Lightpaw with disdain again. Webpaw, though, retained his jealousy and bitterness.
Lightpaw was given the warrior name Lightfeather, and shared the ceremony with his two brothers. It was an exceptionally proud moment for them all, and even bitter Webfur (for that was his warrior name) managed to feel a spark of joy. Soon after they became warriors, though, Webfur went back to being jealous, for Lightfeather was given an apprentice, even though he was young. This was Skypaw, who was a relatively easy cat to train, willing to work and cooperative. Lightfeather taught the youth well, and it seemed very soon that Skypaw became Skyflower, and Lightfeather felt quite proud of himself.
Several moons passed before Lightfeather was given another apprentice, Flightpaw; the intermittent time had passed without much incident, except for perhaps Webfur becoming extremely withdrawn. Flightpaw was a much more difficult cat than Skyflower, for Flightpaw had lost most of his family. Still, after a lot of hard work, Lightfeather managed to win over the young tom. Flightpaw came to regard his mentor as a father figure.
Halfway through having this apprentice, Lightfeather’s great dream came true, and he was chosen as deputy of ThunderClan. He was ecstatic. Flightpaw became Flightwing, and maintained a close relationship with Lightfeather.
Lightfeather was appropriately grieved when the previous leader died, but his grief was soon dimmed by the prospect of becoming leader himself. He received his leader name of Lightstar, and it was surprising to everyone that he did not explode out of happiness. He returned to camp and appointed his brother, Eaglecry, as deputy. Webfur, if possible, grew even more bitter, and in a climactic moment, challenged Lightstar to a battle. An intense skirmish followed when Lightstar initially refused, and an enraged Webfur attacked from behind and sank his jaws into the back of his own brother’s neck. Lightstar retaliated, and Webfur was beaten into submission. The loser was allowed to stay in the Clan, though this decision was quite controversial.
Several moons into being leader, tragedy struck. Eaglecry was helping to defend a warrior and his apprentice from rogues when he was struck down. Lightstar arrived with several other warriors, but not soon enough to save his brother; the tom was already dead by the time help got to the scene. An apprentice also died in the battle. Still, the rogues were eventually beaten off. Lightstar appointed Fadedmist, one of the fighters in that battle, as the new deputy. Since then, no terribly noteworthy things have happened.
