Appearance ;;
There has never been a more apt name for a cat than Boulderfoot for this particular tom. This ThunderClan warrior is massive, easily dwarfing the majority of those in his Clan. There are very few felines that can boast they have reached his size, and even fewer who can claim they surpassed it. Every part of this cat, including each paw, is oversized. Not only is Boulderfoot a tall tom, he is also very thickset, with a wide chest, a broad face, trunk-like legs, and even an almost freakishly thick, though blessedly short, tail. Only a bit of this bulk can be attributed to the tom’s thick, snowy white pelt, for his fur, which is certainly not the softest to touch, is quite short. Also, it should be noted that the tom’s ears, set far apart on his boulder-like head, are also rather small. Likewise, his muzzle is short, so much so that it gives him the look that he was hit in the face with a frying pan at a very young age. His stout, ugly muzzle sits below a pair of wide, owlish eyes, which are a strikingly deep orange in coloration.
Personality ;;
Simplicity is key when describing Boulderfoot’s personality. To put it simply, Boulderfoot is a simple cat. His speech is plain, and so are his thoughts. His feelings are mild, uncomplicated. This is not a difficult cat to understand. Perhaps some consider him a bit dull, and that is probably true by most standards. However, he likes to think of himself as straightforward. He’s a down-to-earth fellow, rather soft-spoken but very easy to get along with. This is not a cat who is going to start a feud with you if you say something wrong. After all, he is mild, and it is difficult to really insult him or get him riled up. He dislikes complications and puzzles, preferring a straightforward, simple existence. Easy to please, it doesn’t take much to keep this cat in a rather contented mood.
With his simplicity of personality, though, comes a simplicity of mind. While few would go so far as to call Boulderfoot stupid, he is not very bright, either. He doesn’t like to think much because he’s not very good at it. As such, he would rather follow orders than make them. He is easy to confuse, easy to fool. He is made into a fool rather often, and is an easy source of practical jokes. Even so, he gets over this easily; as stated before, his feelings aren’t injured very easily.
With other cats of his Clan, Boulderfoot displays quite a degree of camaraderie which is not too different from what fellow soldiers will display to one another. He feels close to the cats, though many of them do not see his behavior as outright friendship. Though he is rarely spotted alone, most cats do not see him as a good friend, rather tolerating his presence because he doesn’t bother anyone. Usually, his silence in conversation is not awkward, but peaceful, and most cats of the Clan understand that he will not go around gossiping. As such, Boulderfoot is rather trustworthy. (Of course, that might partially be because he doesn’t always remember the intricate social details he’s been told.)
History ;;
What do you get when you mix the genetics of two less-than-attractive cats? Well, there are four results, and one of them was Boulderfoot. Heavyfur was one of those big, bushy-haired cats, and Flatface looked like a monster had run over his face with its big round paws. With them for parents, their children didn’t have much hope in being pretty, but what they did get were big muscles and decent parentage.
Naturally, when you’re in a semi-large litter, the parents can’t focus on a single kit… except that, inevitably, they did. The kit of their focus was Mountainkit, a rather large kit at birth who, to everyone’s surprise, turned out to be sickly. Stallionkit, Badgerkit, and Boulderkit were not ignored. Don’t make the mistake of thinking so. They just tended to receive less attention because they were big, healthy, and able, for the most part, to entertain themselves. They were your typical kits, palling around with the other youth of ThunderClan. If you had to choose, Boulderkit was the most easy-going, if the least intelligent, while Badgerkit was turning out to be somewhat of a bully, though not enough to draw undue attention from the adults.
For the most part, things continued on this vein into apprenticeship. Boulderpaw was mentored by an experienced warrior who was frustrated with an apparent lack of the ability to grasp concepts. Boulderpaw was, expectably, a slow learner, and soon he was behind all three of his brothers. For a while, he was very frustrated by this, and lashed out often. Never before had he realized his faults. He was teased relentlessly by Badgerpaw and Stallionpaw in the fashion of brothers; they meant little by it, but Boulderpaw took their words to heart. He worked as hard as any apprentice, but still his progression was slow.
He found comfort in talking to Mountainpaw, who turned out to be spending more time in the medicine cat’s den than in the forest training. Mountainpaw had grown sensitive with his deteriorating health, and offered good advice and comfort. Now, some say that StarClan had visited the youth, and told him the date of his death ahead of time, for Mountainpaw seemed to sense his time was short. Before dying, he imparted the advice to Boulderpaw to accept what fate had given him, taking the gifts with the curses alike, and using them as best he could, for there was only one life that any cat got to live, and the only thing anyone could do was live it. Soon after, Mountainpaw died of greencough.
One might think that, with his slow mind, Boulderpaw wouldn’t have understood his sickly brother’s advice, yet the youth understood this better than he had ever understood anything else in his life. Since Mountainpaw’s death, Boulderpaw became calmer, growing towards the relaxed, unbothered cat he would be in his older age. Even when his father soon died after, due to infected battle wounds, Boulderpaw took it in stride, unlike his two remaining brothers.
Boulderfoot might have earned his name later than his brothers did, but he was given an apprentice soon after gaining his name, for he was needed. He was given Lightpaw, who was so skilled a cat that not even Boulderfoot could hamper him. We all know that, later, little Lightpaw became Lightstar. At the time, some cats made the mistake of thinking it was Boulderfoot’s ability that brought about Lightstar’s success, but Boulderfoot was certainly far from the best teacher. He was given other apprentices over the course of his warriorhood, though none turned out quite like that first.
Not long after Lightpaw was named Lightfeather, Heavyfur died of an illness, for she was growing old and weak with age. Yet again, Boulderfoot took the tragedy in stride. Much later, Stallionheart died as a result of battle wounds, much like his father had. All the while, Boulderfoot just worked through his life. Nothing too terribly exciting happened during this time, just the process of growing older that all cats experience. The tom feels content with his life nonetheless; he wouldn’t like a very dramatic life, anyway.
