A sizzling breeze stirred in the distance, gently brushing by large, dry blades of grass. Snow twirled around like a ghost in fog, sunlight breaking through every so often. It was a cold, bone-chilling day. Animals were taking shelter in their winter homes, sleeping through the delicate winter. All animals, but one. A lone cat traveled through the area. His fur was long and silky, covered in fresh snow-flakes. His eyes were rather tired. He probably hasn't slept for days.
As the loner traveled, he recalled an area that he was familiar with. The area had a great sycamore tree, where he used to live. The memory also brought upon the hatred of being chased away by the clan that had occupied the territory. All he ever wanted was to rest a few days, maybe weeks, and regain his strength. Then he would move on. But no. The cats didn't listen to his reason and chased him away, leaving nasty scratches on his hind legs. How he hated the clan cats. Yet somehow, he liked them. They reminded him of his father, Xanadu.
When the loner was young, his father would constantly wander off into the woods. The loner would love to hear stories that Xanadu told him. Stories of fierce cats that inhabited the land, fighting to survive. He remembered asking, "Dad, why can't they just live with humans? They wouldn't have to fight for food, starve to death, or be cold in the winter." Xanadu merely smiled at the loner and told him that it was the way they chose to live. They'd rather spend days outside instead of being locked up inside a home with humans. He then closed his eyes and the loner remembered hearing his father whisper under his breath,"Like me..."
The loner decided to take a detour around the area. He looked up at the sky, daring it in his heart to pour down a large quantity of snow. He loved snow naturally and even though he was a bit old now, he still loved to prance around in it. The loner finally arrived at the great Sycamore. He scratched out a small area under it and lay down to rest. He started to remember the old days of living in this great tree. As he remembered, he suddenly heard something. Ears alert and claws unsheathed, he stepped out from his small hollow. He scented something nearby, adding to his sense that he was not alone...

Her delicate paws carried her throughout the chilly forest. The breeze ruffled her light, tabby striped fur. Even though it was New-Leaf it was snowing. The tiny she-cat giggled at the thought. But it was just the beginning of the season, so it was expected that the snow would run over. Littlebird and all of her cuteness trotted through the forest, enjoying the fresh air and light forest. Her smile showed her true happiness for today was a great day. Why? Well, she wasn't exactly sure, but it felt as if something wondrous was going to occur. Maybe it would be her lucky day and she could bring home some prey. She wasn't that good a hunter and was sometimes teased about it. Littlebird was a strong cat though, and held her own.
She continued walking and would stop every so often to take a sniff of the air surrounding her, trying to catch any sign of prey. Her ears were pricked forward, backward, sidewards waiting for any sound. Her eyes scanned the ground and roots of the trees throughout the forest. She couldn't sense any prey around. "Great. Just great. Now they'll harass me, but this time it wasn't even my fault." She meowed outloud with a small sigh. Littlebird tried to shake it off though, she was proud of who she was.
The tiny tabby stopped once more to take a whiff of the air and it hit her like a paw to the head. Trespasser. There was a trespasser on Thunderclan's territory, and by the smell of it the intruder was close. Almost immediately, Littlebird dropped into a hunter's crouch and glided across the forest floor toward a bush near the Great Sycamore. She hadn't realized she had came this far out of camp. Shaking her head, she focused back on the main thing here. Littlebird took another smell and the scent was closer this time, a lot closer. Her fur bristled slightly, although she was comfortable with confrontations, she was alone and didn't know how the intruder would react. Her eyes swept the ground, searching the tree roots and forest floor for any sign of the other cat.
She knew it was a cat, although she couldn't tell what clan it was from. Maybe it's not from a clan. She shook her head, wherever the cat was from it wasn't welcome here. It could have been stealing prey. She let a hiss escape from her mouth as her eyes froze on the spotted tom. She crept forward without thinking and was soon standing straight in front of the cat, her fur bristling in full view. She hiss again because all words blanked from her mind. She didn't know what she would do now, and more importantly she didn't know what the trespassing tom would do.

Shirunai's ears twitched as the sound of a hiss rang through them. He quickly turned his head, only to meet the strong gaze of a she-cat. Shirunai's eyes widened in shock at the bravery of the small cat, but soon enough he erupted in a smile. The cat looked silly to him, threatening with a small little hiss. And the way she moved towards him seemed as if she was uncertain of her motives. It amused Shirunai ever so much. He let out a mocking laugh.
"Hah! Ooo I'm Sooooo Scared! Wait, wait, hold up..." Something didn't seem right. The cat smelled like she was with others before. Could this be.. One from a clan, He thought. But why would she come alone? His smile faded and he grew serious. A smooth wind was picking up and it made him feel quite uncomfortable, so he sat down. "Are.. Are you by any chance a part of a clan?" He was curious for two reasons. One being that he wanted to join a clan. The other was the fact that his friend FadedMist was deputy there.
He had met FadedMist a few moons ago, about ten if he was correct. The ThunderClan deputy had saved his tail from being eaten by a dog. He owed his life to FadedMist and eventually, their friendship grew. It was a great thing, to be friends with a deputy from an actual clan!. FadedMist told Shirunai that he would try his best to talk the leader into letting him join the clan, but he hasn't heard from the deputy since 5 moons ago. Shirunai was growing restless and prayed for a miracle. And now he got one! A gorgeous cat was in front of him and from ThunderClan!

As soon as she met the trespasser's gaze, Littlebird knew he would mock her. She was almost always mocked for her size. Most of the time it didn't bother her, but it was frustrating right now. She sank her claws into the ground hard, trying to release her anger into the ground and not on this cat. She let out a louder hiss, trying to prove him wrong. She was able to fight and could probably beat the tom. Littlebird held her tongue, trying so very hard not to lunge toward the spotted cat. Then his voice broke the silence. 'Hah! Ooo I'm Sooooo Scared! Wait, wait, hold up...'
Littlebird almost lunged at that instant, but his next words surprised her. 'Are.. Are you by any chance a part of a clan?' This tom, this intruder and trespasser knew of the clans. She stood there, not sure how to answer. A scowl covered her face, as she contemplated her answer. "What are you talking about?" She spat, almost baring her teeth. This tom was wearing on her last nerve. First he mocks her, then he asks about her origins. If he didn't back off, he would receive some lashings that he would want to forget. He had no idea who he was messing with. Littlebird hoped he would learn his lesson and stop teasing her, she was serious and meant business. This was her land, not his. He had no right to be there.

Shirunai found it quite peculiar and odd at the cat's reaction. He saw that she wanted to rip him apart, in fact that is what he was expecting. That's what should have happened. But the question in his mind was simple; Why hadn't she tried to kill him or chase him away? Was there something stopping her? If it were another cat, they probably would've chased him away, but no. He was alive, unscathed and still in a clan territory. His eyes immediately met hers as her delicate voice spoke up. "What are you talking about?" Shirunai pondered for a moment. How could he put his curiosity in the right words? He kept watching her wearily, watching her face as a scowl erupted over it. At last, he thought of what to say.
"Well.. I was promised to be a part of a clan by another cat. Or rather would I say that he said he'd try. He was a kind of.. Black and white cat, oh what was his name... Oh yes! Fadedmist. He saved my life and I did the same. He said he'd speak with his leader about it. I didn't catch what clan he came from though..." He watched the she-cat in a rather uneasy stance. Would this cat kill him? All he could do was wait...

The tiny tabby stood, her tail lashing from side to side and yet her eyes softened. There was something oddly peculiar about this tom. Littlebird got a weird feeling from him, but it wasn't necessarily a bad weird. Just not right. She looked him over for the first real time. He was a larger tom than she, but then again, most cats were. His spotted pelt had a dull shine to it. She met his amber eyes, gazing into them she realized he seemed to be surprised. At first she wasn't sure why, but then she thought about it. I let this loner, trespasser, intruder onto Thunderclan's land and didn't chase him off. I'm standing here having a conversation with him, letting him explain himself while I should have ripped his little heart out. She argued with herself silently.
As the loner began to speak, Littlebird kept her eyes on him, listening closely to his answer. 'Well.. I was promised to be a part of a clan by another cat. Or rather would I say that he said he'd try.' This surprised the little cat. She didn't know of any cats that would want to offer a home to a loner. As he continued speaking, she thought about any mentions of a loner looking to join the clans. She could think of none. It was his next statement that stunned Littlebird. He was a kind of.. Black and white cat, oh what was his name... Oh yes! Fadedmist.' She shook her head in disbelief. Fadedmist?! Offering a loner a home in Thunderclan?! It was truly unbelievable. Littlebird thought of anytime she had seen the deputy sneaking off and tried to remember an incident where he spoke of this cat. She could recall none.
Littlebird, thinking of Fadedmist realized it wasn't his nature at all. She could only think of the black and white tom sitting alone by himself. Never really engaging in the clan's activities. She felt bad for the deputy, because he always seemed so upset and lonesome. She turned her attention back to the loner as he continued speaking. 'He saved my life and I did the same. He said he'd speak with his leader about it. I didn't catch what clan he came from though...' Littlebird's immediate reaction was once again surprise. She wanted to know how Fadedmist had saved the loner's life and vis versa. When the tom said he couldn't tell her what clan he came from she immediately answered. "Thunderclan. He's from Thunderclan. He's the Deputy of Thunderclan." She meowed quietly, her defense completely down. The fur on her back lay flat once more as she told this stranger what he wanted to know.
Once she realized this, Littlebird pulled all of her walls back up, trying not to let her guard down again. She had no idea who this tom was and didn't know his true intentions. She silently cursed herself for letting information slip from her mouth. Her fur bristled once more and her claws dug deep into the ground. She prayed to Starclan for an answer of what she should do. The tiny tabby wanted to help, but didn't fully trust him. She waited, hoping a sign would show.

Cold air blasted up the nostrils of a sturdy cream tom who wandered the woods of ThunderClan. Though the snow that crusted the ground chilled the cat’s pads, his strapping muscles rippled reliably beneath his short, pale pelt. Light streamed down through the gaps in the forest canopy where leaves normally provided cover. The brightness was caught by a pair of golden eyes, which held the light in their depths, shining and resplendent with captured sun. The tomcat blinked, for the brightness seared into his eyes and made them ache. Screwing up his gaze, he looked skyward, trying to determine the time. The Clan would grow anxious if their leader did not soon return.
The Clan was not the only anxious party, though. Lightstar wondered why in the name of StarClan he had set off on patrol alone, anyway. He was a social cat, and his chest ached with thirst, raw for want of another cat’s company. Lowering his gaze, the tabby stood paw-deep in frigid snow, staring around at the bare trunks of the innumerable trees. Whiskers and tail both twitched with indecision as Lightstar’s lonely half pleaded with himself, begging to return to the Clan and be surrounded by others. The energetic side of the tom, though, the one that had urged him out of the camp to begin with, was not so keen on the idea of idling away in his den. Deciding to round out his patrol at the Great Sycamore, the ThunderClan leader trotted off again, lifting his slim tail with cheer at the prospect of both of his wants – for company and for action – were going to soon be satisfied.
They were to be satisfied much sooner than Lightstar had initially anticipated.
As the tom neared the ancient but robust tree that was one of ThunderClan’s landmarks, his triangular ears pricked and excitement sparkled like sunshine in his eyes. A feminine voice sounded up ahead. Lightstar’s heart leapt cheerfully in his chest, anticipating the fulfillment of its need for companionship. Some ThunderClan she-cat was up ahead, and surely no cat would deny patrolling with her leader! A broad grin played upon the tabby tom’s muzzle as he quickened his pace, peering through the trees as he searched for a familiar outline, for one of his Clan-mates. Undergrowth barred the other cat from his sight. The tom plowed straight through it, shrugging twigs aside with his brawny shoulders.
When Lightstar came strolling out of the undergrowth, a split second found his smile broadening, for his eyes lighted on not one but two cats. The old saying was running through the leader’s mind: “The more, the merrier!” Then the second was over, and that grin turned itself upside down. A strange scent pounded into Lightstar’s nose, one of a loner. His amber stare immediately settled on the unfamiliar cat, who was a bit larger than him and covered with tan, speckled fur. The leader’s eyes widened, for he had never seen this cat before! The tom’s eyes flicked to the she-cat, confirming that this was not another stranger. No, this was no trespasser. The she-cat was Littlebird, a tiny young warrior with only a stump for a tail.
The identity of the female settled, Lightstar turned once more to the intruder. It was not he that the leader addressed, though. ”Littlebird?” the cream-colored tom queried. ”Who is this? A friend of yours?” Lightstar’s voice was deceptively light and amiable, for his muscles were tensing. He did not plan to attack the loner, but he did not want to be caught unawares if this spotted tom was a foe, as opposed to friend.
[ooc: Hope you don’t mind me joining, BrightTail. Oh, and did Fadedmist actually ask Lightstar about Shirunai, or was Fadedmist just saying that?]

Shirunai let the smooth breeze ruffle his fur as his question stood out. H e knew that it must've sounded like he was imposing into the cat's background knowledge. He felt bad about it, but at least he would be able to know about what had happened about FadedMist's attempt to speak with the leader. Shirunai's ears bolted back as the she-cat spoke. Her voice was quick and sudden. "Thunderclan. He's from Thunderclan. He's the Deputy of Thunderclan." Shirunai's eyes brightened. So it was Thunderclan... He immediately noticed that the little she-cat must not have wanted to say anything to him. It seemed as though the information had escapes her mouth. He was grateful that it had happened, but he wasn't sure about the overall result and effect that it had on the cat's thinking. Shirunai cleared his throat, about to say something when all of a sudden a brilliant tom had appeared. Shirunai was knocked aback by the bold entrance by the tom.
It was a rather interesting entrance. Bursting through the bushes he stepped out into the wary sunlight. His fur was a bold cream colour, outmatching Shirunai's ocicat traits. He immediately knew that this cat was of great importance. The cat seemed to from upon Shirunai's appearance. Perhaps this cat would order the female to chase him away? It was a high risk to say anything at the moment, Shirunai was worried about provoking the great cat. Then, out of nowhere, the cat spoke in a loud, yet 'in charge' kind of tone. ”Littlebird? Who is this? A friend of yours?” Shirunai winced at the sound of his great voice. It showed great dominance and as all cats know, two males that both wanted control was not a good mix. He stared at the female who was now known as LittleBird. Shirunai thought that he had heard the name before. Perhaps FadedMist mentioned it before? Shirunai kept staring down at the large cat, afraid of what was to come. He then came to his senses and gathered his courage and mewed his response to the cat.
"Uhh.. No sir... I'm not a fr-friend of Little- errr hers... I-I-I'm actually associated with a cat known as FadedMist... He's a deputy of Thunderclan... Would you perhaps know of him?" Shirunai hoped that nothing bad would come of what he had said. It was a great risk to talk to a large cat that could easily overcome the loner. But it was a chance he had to take. Being chased away was now the least of his worries. His major worry was the reaction and outcome of this situation that was growing rather awkward. He sat down, his head slightly lowered to show that he wasn't the dominant one in this situation. Then, he heard a soft voice along the bushes that surrounded the Sycamore. It sounded familiar. Shirunai swung his head to the right, only to meet the gaze of a cat that he knew quite well. It was FadedMist... Words: 500 Muse: High Comments: Mmm I like the confrontation with the leader xD Adds a whole new situation. It was a rather lonely day for FadedMist, the deputy of Thunderclan. The warriors were busy hunting and going on patrols, leaving him in charge of an empty camp. He would hear the occasional grunts of the leader as he padded to and fro. FadedMist grew tired of his leader's wanderings. Whenever his leader would wander off, all sorts of problems would arise. They would either be about shortage of prey and what to do about it, or a cat or two that needed to speak with the leader. FadedMist would assign new cats for the patrols and substitute hunters to solve the food shortage problem. However, he would just say that the leader was busy wandering on some sort of duty outside the camp. He hated running the camp without the leader, and today was no different. While FadedMist was sleeping, the great leader must've wandered off again, leaving a giant weight on FadedMist's shoulders. As soon as FadedMist awoke, there was already a group of cats that were confused. It irritated him greatly. But that wasn't half of it! FadedMist hated his leader as a whole. He felt that LightStar could do a little more for the clan instead of wandering off as he always does.
FadedMist took a look around the camp and spotted a trustworthy warrior. "Hey you. Watch the camp while I'm gone. I need to run somewhere. If anything happens your skin comes off, got it?" The warrior looked terrified but agreed. FadedMist immediately wandered out of the campgrounds, senses tingling at what he would see of Lightstar's travels. He wandered aimlessly, following the scent of the majestic leader. It irritated FadedMist at how his leader could wander in this manner. The scent trail led him to a group of bushes, and it was just in time as well. Behind the bushes was the great Sycamore tree. And not only that, but the leader as well as two others. He recognized one of the other scents as LittleBird, a noble warrior. FadedMist was skeptical about the other scent though. Suddenly, he remembered where he had smelled the cat before!
FadedMist stepped slowly out the bushes, showing his lonesome presence. He stared at the loner that he recognized as Shirunai, a cat that had saved his life. He looked over at Lightstar and gave a bow of his head. [color-blue]"LightStar... LittleBird..."
[/color] The years that had passed in FadedMist's eyes gave him a small word vocabulary. He never said much, only when he needed to. And he had a feeling that this was one of those moments.[/blockquote] Words: 429 Muse: High Comments: Oh my xD

The tiny tabby she-cat took a moment to stop cursing herself silently and looked up to the light, spotted tom standing before her. He looked as if he was about to speak, but then stopped, fear and caution spreading over his face. Not even a second later she heard the bushes rustle and whipped her head around, her claws still unsheathed in case it was another trespasser or enemy.
At this point, Littlebird had no idea how she would handle it if it were a cat she had to fight. The tabby had no idea what the spotted loner would do, if he would fight with her or against her. She then realized how stupid she could have been by not chasing this cat off. Maybe this cat coming through the bushes was on the loner's side, maybe it was an ambush.
Her gaze landed on the source of rustling through the bush. The large cream tom stood before Littlebird and the loner. Lightsar. Her leader. She let out a breath of relief. At least it wasn't an attacker. But as soon as the relief washed through her it was drained back out by the fear. Fear of what the noble Thunderclan leader thought of Littlebird standing here conversing with the loner. Maybe he thought she was unloyal. She started to quickly jump to her defense.
Lightstar's voice carried through the cool air. 'Littlebird? Who is this? A friend of yours?' Littlebird quickly shook her head. She didn't even know the tom's name. She went to respond, but once again was cut off. She expected the next words to be something along the lines of 'then why is he here and you aren't chasing him off?' and she also expected the words to come from her leader, not the loner.
'Uhh.. No sir... I'm not a fr-friend of Little- errr hers... I-I-I'm actually associated with a cat known as FadedMist... He's a deputy of Thunderclan... Would you perhaps know of him?' Littlebird shook her head subtly, this loner was not a smart one. She had no idea why he was giving away so much information. It was like he was in need of being in contact with Fadedmist once more. Her claws dug deeper into the ground as her frustration grew. Littlebird should have driven this spotted tom off when she first laid eyes on him.
Her tiny frame shivered slightly from a breeze that tore through the air. It was getting closer to the late afternoon. Another rustle of the bushes took Littlebird by surprise, looking to the direction of the noise. She took a sniff of the air and recognized it immediately. Fadedmist. What a wonderful time for him to show up. Maybe then he could start the explaining he had to do, for he knew of this loner and the loner knew of him. She slightly dipped her head in acknowledgement, as she waited to hear what he would say, if anything.
'LightStar... LittleBird...' His soft and quiet voice, that Littlebird rarely heard filled her head. She looked from the deputy to the leader to the loner and then back to the deputy and leader once more. She knew this was a confusing knot that she had now become involved with, all because she just wanted to go out hunting. She waited for Lightstar to speak once more.

The loner was staring right back at Lightstar, clearly daunted, if the anxiety that flared in his eyes was any indication. Still, the ThunderClan leader was mildly impressed when that frightened tom had the gall to respond to the offered query. ”Uhh.. No sir... I'm not a fr-friend of Little- errr hers... I-I-I'm actually associated with a cat known as FadedMist... He's a deputy of Thunderclan... Would you perhaps know of him?" the loner mewed a querulous voice, though his stammering faded as he continued to speak. The other tom’s ears pricked with interest at the mention of Fadedmist, his deputy, as a memory flickered across the cream-colored tom’s mind. A conversation, a question, and mention of a kittypet friend… Though when the loner asked if Lightstar knew of him, the leader didn’t bother to suppress a small smile and a chuckle. How could Lightstar not know of him?
Then followed another one of those moments that can be aptly described by a saying: “Speak of the devil, and the devil will appear.” With a barely-heard rustle, another cat stepped into the clearing surrounding the Great Sycamore. Lightstar didn’t even have to turn to know it was Fadedmist; the cat had an odd tendency to follow him on the rare occasions Lightstar decided to travel alone. Still, practically out of politeness, the pale-pelted tom looked over one muscular shoulder, and his golden gaze landed on his deputy, who bowed his head and mumbled a bit. It could be accurately stated that Lightstar didn’t exactly like Fadedmist, but he was a capable deputy, and while the bi-colored tom’s bowed head suggested he was awaiting retribution, his leader wasn’t going to offer any, especially in front of one of his warriors and a loner.
Lightstar turned back to the spotted loner, still smiling his small and slightly amused smile. ”Yes, I know of Fadedmist,” he meowed, amusement tickling his voice. ”And I have a feeling I know who you are. Generally, anyway. Fadedmist has mentioned you before.” Still smiling and watching the loner, a frank look in his eyes, Lightstar announced, ”I am Lightstar, leader of ThunderClan.” The tabby inclined his head to the very slightest degree, a gesture of greeting, not submission. By now, the tom’s tensed muscles had completely relaxed, for now he knew who this cat was, and suspected he would not harm them. Not the least of the reasons for this was that the loner was outnumbered three to one.
It was then that the memory was resurfacing in Lightstar’s mind, that small conversation with Fadedmist that had culminated in a vague “we shall see.” An idea formed, swelling up underneath that memory until it burst in front of the leader’s mind’s eye. The tabby’s smile broadened, and he stepped to the side, summoning his deputy forward with a flick of his feathery-furred tail. The stocky tom turned and smiled amiably at the black-and-white tom, his eyes concealing shrewdness. ”Don’t be shy, Fadedmist. Say hello to your friend!” Lightstar meowed breezily. ”What was it you were telling me about—er—pardon, what’s your name?” The ThunderClan leader turned his brilliant eyes on the spotted loner once more. Littlebird was being ignored for the time being, but she was key, as far as her leader was concerned. She represented the rest of the Clan, and he needed to know what the general Clan thought about these goings-on.

Shirunai's eyes widened as he saw a brilliant tom step out of the bushes. Immediately, he realized that this was FadedMist. The cat that had saved his life and vice versa. He was short of breath, not knowing what to say. He merely stared at the brilliant tom. Something had indeed changed in him. For one, FadedMist had more scars than Shirunai last saw him. It was a little uncomfortable to seethe deep gashes within his fur. Shirunai could only guess how he got them. He looked over towards the leader that he now knew as LightStar, since FadedMist had recited it in a rather dull tone. He felt for the poor cat and had the feeling that nobody understood him well.
Shirunai's ears perked as the leader's voice broke through the awkward silence. ”Don’t be shy, Fadedmist. Say hello to your friend!" Shirunai waited, expecting FadedMist to say a warm hello. But nothing happened. The tom's gaze was on the ground. Shirunai felt the emotion of hatred wafting from the cat. Perhaps he was lonely? He wanted to come up to FadedMist and say thank-you a million times. But he knew that any action might trigger an unwanted reaction from the wild tom. LightStar spoke again. "What was it you were telling me about—er—pardon, what’s your name?" Shirunai immediately let a smile erupt on his face. The leader... Was... Talking to him... And not just answering questions, but ASKING them!
Shirunai perked up his head and answered in a delightful tone. "My name is Shirunai!" His eyes glared at FadedMist, only to be turned to sympathy. The tom.. The delicate, hard-felt tom.. He was crying? Tears seemed to streak down FadedMist's face. Shirunai's eyes widened in shock, his jaw dropping. He didn't know what to do to comfort his old friend. Shirunai was about to ask what was wrong, when FadedMist coughed a scornful good-bye and left. He disappeared as fast as he had appeared. Shirunai's ears fell flat and his heart sank. Was it something he did?
He looked over to LightStar and LittleBird, waiting for a reaction from them. Shirunai sat down. He was disappointed. Perhaps FadedMist really hadn't wanted him to join a clan after all... Words: 369 Muse: Very Low Comments: BlehFadedMist winced at his leader's words. friend? Shirunai was no friend to him. He was just a cat that he had saved. Yet he owed Shirunai, as he had saved FadedMist twice before. FadedMist wanted nothing to do with this cat at the moment. He twitched at the thought of ever talking to LightStar about this... cat.. No... This thing... He snorted at the cat's words. He reminded him of his sister. The poor, misguided cat. He was happy that he had killed her. Even to this day. But....
Tears started swelling in his eyes. FadedMist felt so alone. When she was alive, he was always ignored by everyone except her. One by one, his tears dropped. He didn't care if anybody noticed. Especially not if the leader saw this. Every cat had a soft side, and FadedMist just couldn't bear the pain any longer. He needed to let it all out.. But not here..
FadedMist turned to his leader, ready to address him. "I'll see you later..." He paded away, tears slowly dropping onto his delicate paws. A gentle breeze stirred his battle-scarred body, revealing his gashes that lay hidden under his fur. FadedMist broke into a run as soon as he was clear from them. He arrived at the sunning rocks and began to yowl in the night. He looked at a nearby rock and unsheathed his claws. In a terrible fury of anger, he attacked the rock. He needed his anger to be released, or it would kill him inside. FadedMist fell asleep that night, his paws bleeding. It wasn't a lot of blood, but it hurt him a lot. He would come back to the camp when his leader would summon him. Words: 285 Muse: Very Low Comments: Bleh

• we can do a n y t h i n g we want to if we stick to it long enough •
The tiny tabby she-cat was completely unsure of how her leader would act in the situation. She watched closely for Lightstar's reaction and was a little bit surprised with how content he seemed. But then again when she thought about his personality that surprise weakened. Lightstar had always been a friendly cat, but even so Littlebird believed that no cat should be in Thunderclan's territory unless they were a Thunderclan cat. Why then didn't I chase the tom from the forest? I actually let him stay and explain himself. She didn't really understand it. Maybe it was because the tom seemed harmless enough. She shook her head slightly as she listened to Lightstar's words. 'Yes, I know of Fadedmist, and I have a feeling I know who you are. Generally, anyway. Fadedmist has mentioned you before. I am Lightstar, leader of ThunderClan.' The tabby she-cat was stunned. How come she had never heard anything about this unusual cat? She figured Fadedmist only spoke of the spotted tom to Lightstar. That was what would make sense anyway.
Her pale green eyes swept each tom, landing on Fadedmist even though Lightstar was the one to speak. 'Don’t be shy, Fadedmist. Say hello to your friend!' Littlebird watched for any emotion from Fadedmist. She wasn't really close with the deputy, but then again no one really was. He kept to himself mainly. Looking the black and white tom over she thought about how lonely he must be. She decided that she would try to get to know him. How well that plan would work out? Littlebird had no idea, but it was worth a shot. After Lightstar finished speaking Littlebird could visually see Fadedmist flinch. She wasn't sure why or at what words. Maybe he believed Lightstar of accusing him of being a traitor. The tiny head turned towards the loner who spoke his name finally. Shirunai. An odd name for an odd cat. Well, different was more appropriate. She glanced back at Fadedmist and noticed his eyes watering slightly before he turned and left. Littlebird stood confused and worried, watching the empty space where her deputy just stood.
Littlebird quickly turned back to Shirunai and Lightstar to see how they reacted. Before thinking things through she dipped her head toward Lightstar. "Maybe I should go after him?" She asked, knowing that no one else would be willing. Littlebird truly felt sorry for the Thunderclan deputy. Everyone mostly ignored him and he didn't have many friends, if any. Well, I can start and be number one. She thought to herself, waiting for permission from Lightstar to leave. She didn't want to be rude and just take off. She also wanted to make sure that her leader didn't want to go after his deputy. She lightly sighed, wondering what would happen with the loner, Shirunai. And also with Fadedmist. She stood, her stump of a tail moving back and forth slightly.

When you thought about it, Lightstar was an enormously predictable cat. If a cat was threatening violence, the ThunderClan leader would respond with violence. If a cat behaved otherwise, Lightstar would receive them with warmth and be perfectly friendly. Anybody could have guessed that he wasn’t going to be chasing Shirunai away unless the loner had acted threatening. After all, the cream-colored tom was the cat who offered forgiveness to the brother who had outright attacked him. Fadedmist, however, was downright unpredictable. He was a wild card, which was one of the things the leader disliked about him. Still, Lightstar repeatedly made the mistake of thinking he could predict his deputy’s actions. The tabby had predicted the deputy would come sulking forward and admit to asking if this freckled loner could join the Clan, after much huffing and puffing.
His actual reaction, as it was, was quite different from what Lightstar had imagined.
Tears were trickling down Fadedmist’s cheeks. Lightstar, who had glanced around when his deputy hadn’t stepped forward to join him, had experienced a shocked widening of his eyes and an unbidden ripple of surprise through his whiskers when he saw the crumpled face of the black-and-white tom. And then Fadedmist was walking away, his tender tears hidden from the leader’s view. Still, just as surely as they carved a path of dampness down the deputy’s fur, they were carving across Lightstar’s heart as sympathy swelled in his chest. He might not like his own deputy, but look! He still took a step after him, his golden eyes lit with concern and his jaws parted, as if he meant to say something. But what could he say? He hadn’t expected this! He didn’t have the time to scour his mind for the right words to say, for Fadedmist was already gone, swallowed by the forest.
Fadedmist was beyond his leader’s help now, for there were other cats who needed Lightstar’s attention. The pale tabby swung back around to the other two cats, not bothering to mask eyes in which confusion mingled with distress. Why should he hide the fact that Fadedmist’s departure troubled him? The leader’s gaze landed on Shirunai for a moment, just long enough to see disappointment nestled between his shoulders. Then Littlebird was speaking, and as was his primary duty, the leader had to attend to her, his warrior.
”Maybe I should go after him?” the she-cat asked. Lightstar considered her proposal for a moment, then shook his head, regret etched into his cheeks. ”No, Littlebird,” he meowed apologetically. ”Not yet, at least,” he amended. If Littlebird longed to reach out to the solitary deputy, who was her leader to tell her he could not? Of course, Lightstar wanted to go after Fadedmist, himself, but his duties prevented him. For perhaps the first time, he resented the fact he was leader, but only briefly. ”We have other things to take care of first.”
Now Lightstar’s eyes were back on the loner, and his tan paws were carrying him forward. As the ThunderClan leader approached the spotted tom, he noted that the loner was just as distressed about the situation with Fadedmist, if not more so. If Fadedmist was beyond his leader’s help at this moment, then Shirunai could be the recipient of the kindness that the light-colored tabby had to offer.
”Don’t be upset, Shirunai,” the stocky Lightstar advised, his voice adopting a tone which past events had proved was a comforting one. ”Things with Fadedmist will work out, but first let’s get to you.” Poor, unfortunate Shirunai. Of all cats, why did it have to be the unpredictable, unexplainable Fadedmist who connected the loner to ThunderClan? This was the least felicitous way that any cat could have asked for acceptance into a Clan, with that cat’s only advocate deciding to throw a temper tantrum before the cat’s future was decided. Lightstar realized this, and aimed to make things better for Shirunai, who would have had a difficult time even under the most ideal circumstances.
”To clarify: do you wish to join ThunderClan? To abandon an old life and be a faithful, loyal member of a Clan? To adopt the warrior code as your own, to follow it steadfastly, and to be true to the ways of the warrior and to ThunderClan? All old ties will be severed for new ones to form. Is this what you want?”

Shirunai looked a little confused. He didn't know what to say as his old friend padded away. He sensed confusion and a disturbance with the other two cats. Shirunai dropped his eyes to the ground. He felt as if he never should have wandered into this place. Guilt started to swell in his gut. Shirunai wanted to just crawl into a dark hole and wait for something good to happen. But that wasn't the reality and Shirunai had to face it no matter what. Just as he was about to speak, LightStar's magnificent voice loomed over.
”Don’t be upset, Shirunai, things with Fadedmist will work out, but first let’s get to you" Shirunai's ears perked up in interest.”To clarify: do you wish to join ThunderClan? All old ties will be severed for new ones to form. Is this what you want?” Shirunai couldn't believe it! This was what he wanted! He almost leaped in happiness, yet he knew that he had to keep his composure.
Shirunai started to nod his head steadily. "Y-Yes LightStar, sir. This is what I want! I won't let you down!" He wanted to leap and dance around, but he couldn't. At least, not yet. He would prove to LightStar that he could be a great member of ThunderClan! Words: 250 Muse: Very Low Comments: Ughgg

• we can do a n y t h i n g we want to if we stick to it long enough •
The frustration seeped through her small frame as her leader's words filled the air and her head. 'No, Littlebird. Not yet, at least.' She shook her head and let out a clearly audible sigh. The small tabby had no idea why Lightstar never seemed to truly care about his deputy. She figured if they hated each other so much, then why would Lightstar even choose Fadedmist as the deputy? She just didn't understand it. Before she could object though, Lightstar continued on with his preaching. 'We have other things to take care of first.' Her temper was starting to get the best of her. It wasn't as if it was Littlebird's duty to decide what to do with Shirunai. That was the leader's job and it pertained below 0% to the young warrior, at least in her mind.
'Don’t be upset, Shirunai. Things with Fadedmist will work out, but first let’s get to you. The comforting words directed toward the loner infuriated Littlebird even more. Lightstar seemed to care more about this stupid loner, who Littlebird should have chased off of Thunderclan territory, then a member of his own clan. His deputy no less. Sheathing and unsheathing her claws into the cold hard ground, as if trying to release some anger, she continued to watch the two toms in front of her. If the tabby cat had a long tail it would have been swishing from side to side with frustration and anger. With each second her temper was becoming more and more predominate and at one point you could probably feel the hostility radiating off of her tiny body. Her pale green eyes watched Lightstar's expression and noticed a hint of pity focused toward the loner.
'To clarify: do you wish to join ThunderClan? To abandon an old life and be a faithful, loyal member of a Clan? To adopt the warrior code as your own, to follow it steadfastly, and to be true to the ways of the warrior and to ThunderClan? All old ties will be severed for new ones to form. Is this what you want?' A bitter wind tore through the cold air, ruffling the cats fur. Her ears felt red hot as she listened to what Lightstar was offering this loner. Letting out a hiss she turned to Lightstar, facing him head on. Even though she was a very small cat, she could be intimidating at times. This could qualify as one of them. "What is your problem?! You stand her offering acceptance and pity to this useless loner, but can't even spare a second of your time to support your own deputy?! I can't believe you would stoop that low Lightstar. I'm going after Fadedmist right now to make sure he is alright. You and this pathetic cat can do what you wish." She spat, turning toward Shirunai. "I don't care if you stay or go, but just know this. If you ever step just one paw step in the wrong direction you will have to answer to me. Don't even think about trying me." And with that she bolted off in the direction Fadedmist went, not waiting for either tom to reply.
As she ran through the cool forest her anger slowly faded. Realization of what she had done and the words she had spoken to her leader raced through her mind. Starclan forgive me, but maybe this will open Lightstar's eyes and show him that he should care more about Fadedmist. She prayed silently. Even though she felt somewhat guilty because of the fact that she had been very disrespectful toward her leader, she couldn't help but feel proud of herself. Littlebird couldn't recall a time that anyone had ever stood up to Lightstar about the way he treated Fadedmist and she couldn't recall a time where anyone had been so harsh with their words. "Oh well, it's done and over with for now." She whispered to herself, following Fadedmist's scent, hoping she would catch up with him.
