The Cat's Meow!
Name ;; Adderpaw Gender ;; tom Age ;; seven moons old Clan ;; ThunderClan Rank ;; medicine cat apprentice
Picture ;; click
Appearance ;; when other cats look at Adderpaw, probably most of them would agree that he's a colorful young apprentice with strange ticking in his coat. He is neither laughably small, nor is he impressively large, being rather average in size. He does, however, have the look of royalty around him, with a regal air despite his very young age. Although he's a medicine cat and has chosen herbs and poultices over teeth and claws, he is lithe and has hard muscles under his coat. This is a result of his habitual runs across ThunderClan territory and back, which he takes when Dawnheart doesn't need him. He has an energetic, lively look to him and moves with brisk, easy pawsteps everywhere he goes. He is balanced, with no part of him out of proportion.
Adderpaw's head is a slightly rounded wedge shape, a bit like the serpent's that his mother named him after. There are simply no flat lines anywhere on his head, giving him a less threatening appearance than that of a snake. His brow, his cheeks, and his profile lines are all gentle contours, giving him a kind expression that tends to soothe his patients. There's a small rise between his nose and forehead and his ears are set a good ways apart, and his head flows easily back into his neck without any sign of a break or indent. His muzzle is neither pointed nor is it flat or square and his chin stays level with it, neither receding or protruding. As he gets a little older and matures, he will probably develop slight jowls.
Adderpaw's ears are set high on his head, alert for any sound that might come to him. They are also somewhat large, which is a trait that has earned him more than a few taunts from other kits when he was still in the nursery. They're slightly pointed at the tips, but are mostly round, cupped around the base. They are almost constantly set in a listening position, swiveled forward and pricked high. The fur on his ears is extremely short and lies close to the skin, and are tipped with coal black. His eyes are almond shaped and also larger than most, highly expressive in the way they flash and flicker with their owner's emotions. They are golden in color and have a dark line of color around them, but the surrounding fur is lighter.
Adderpaw is, quite obviously, mostly average or in between in almost every point of his appearance. His body is of a medium length, somewhere between short and stocky and long and thin. As mentioned before, he is lithe and could even be described as graceful when he's not bounding back and forth around the camp. While he's still not yet full grown, he is muscular as most Clan cats, but lacks a look of coarseness. His legs are slim and finely-boned, and he has the distinct look of standing up on the very tips of his paws even when at rest. His paws are small, oval in shape and compact, with five toes on his front paws and four on his back ones. His tail is long, thick at the base and tapering until it reaches the end.
Adderpaw has a strange coat, considering the fact that he's a wild-born ThunderClan cat. His pelt is soft, even silky to the touch and fine in texture, and although some cats think that it's just a bit of kit fluff that hasn't gone away, it's the way it will remain for the rest of his days. He is a short-haired cat, but his fur is long enough that a single strand of hair has enough room for two dark bands of color that give him the ticked appearance. His pelt is a burnt-sienna or ruddy brown color, flecked with dark brown as well as black in some areas. His undercoat is orange-brown, and his belly and the inside of his legs is more lightly colored. His tail, like his ears, is tipped with black on the end, and there is black fur in between his toes.
Personality ;; #1 - adventurous, an adjective meaning a) inclined or willing to engage in adventures; enjoying adventures, and b) full of risk; requiring courage; hazardous. Synonym of the words bold, daring, venturous, and venturesome. Oh, yes, Adderpaw is very adventurous. There is simply no place this little apprentice will refuse to go to, no matter how terrifying or difficult the journey seems to be. He likes finding out new things, even if they seem a little scary at first. A lot of times cats wonder why he chose to be a medicine cat if he enjoys taking risks so much, as the life of a warrior is much more exciting, but he'll just laugh at that one. The thing is that almost everyone gets to be a warrior; only a select few get to be medicine cats.
#2 - selfish, an adjective meaning a) devoted to or caring only for oneself; concerned primarily with one's own interests, benefits, welfare, etc., regardless of others, and b) characterized or manifesting concern or care only for oneself. Synonym of the words self-interested, self-seeking, egotistic, illiberal, parsimonious, and stingy. Unfortunately, Adderpaw also displays the trait of being selfish. He is totally and completely blind to his affect on other cats and is very much still like a kit in the sense that he can only see his own hunger or pain when struck by it. He thinks that he's StarClan's gift to ThunderClan, and will be very upset if you tell him otherwise. It is a hurdle he must learn to get over if he is to be a true medicine cat.
#3 - energetic, an adjective meaning a) possessing or exhibiting energy, esp. in abundance; vigorous, and b) powerful in action or effect; effective. Synonym of the words active, effectual, strong, and potent. Adderpaw is extremely energetic. He hardly ever seems to sleep, taking brief naps during the day but awake for the majority of it, and at night he's a light sleeper and can be woken up very easily. When there isn't a hunting patrol out, it isn't rare at all to see Adderpaw streaking across ThunderClan territory in a full out run, only to stop at the border, turn around, then dart back for seemingly no apparent reason. This is to tire himself out some, so that Dawnheart won't get agitiated by his constant supply of energy.
#4 - quick-tempered, an adjective meaning easily angered. Synonym of the words quarrelsome, testy, churlish, and irascible. Adderpaw is volcanically quick-tempered. He can become extremely upset or excited if he thinks he, his friends, his mentor, or any of his Clanmates are being slighted. Because he isn't being trained to be a warrior, he lacks the ability to fight the way the other apprentices can, but he will try if he thinks it's necessary. He will not stand for being insulted and will flare up if he thinks he's being bossed or pushed around. However, there is a silver lining to this flaw; for as quickly as he reacts to a hurt, he will forgive and forget it. Sometimes his fury lasts for so little time, it's gone before anyone knows they upset him.
#5 - pioneering, an adjective meaning a) being the earliest, original, first of a particular kind, b) of, pertaining to, or characteristic of pioneers, and c) being a pioneer. Synonym of the words leading, trailblazing, forerunning, and pathfinding. Adderpaw is pioneering. He isn't at all frightened of trying new things, and is just the sort of medicine cat who would mix up as many different combinations of herbs he could find to see what all he can cure. This can be both a strength and a weakness (as most traits usually are), as it may someday lead to a discovery that the Clans have never seen before. On the other paw, it also means that he's going to make a few mistakes first; the first draft, after all, is never perfect.
#6 - impulsive, an adjective meaning a) actuated or swayed by emotional or involuntary impulses, b) having the power or effect of impelling; characterized by impulsion, and c) inciting to action. Synonym of the words rash, quick, hasty, and impetuous. Adderpaw is obviously very impulsive. Often times he tries the very first thing that pops into his head, and is very much the sort of cat who will look after he leaps. Sometimes, the first thing is the best thing, which means that action is taken very quickly and a life could very well be saved. But sometimes, more often than not momentarily due to his youth and inexperience, the first thing is wrong and then extra steps have to be taken in order to fix the problem he accidentally created.
#7 - courageous, an adjective meaning possessing or characterized by courage; brave. Synonym of the word brave. For a medicine cat, Adderpaw is courageous. Just because he doesn't know how to fight doesn't mean that he'll back down when trouble arises; StarClan, no! He'll face a mountain lion without so much as flinching, so what does he have to fear from a couple of enemy warriors? This is a great asset, particularly when there's a battle going on; Adderpaw won't be afraid to weave in and out of the fighting to pick out which cats need his help the most, making sure they get treatment as soon as possible. Also, this also means he's not afraid to hope; when everything seems lost, Adderpaw will find something.
#8 - impatient, an adjective meaning a) not patient; not accepting delay, opposition, pain, etc., with calm or patience, b) indictating lack of patience, and c) restless in desire or expectation. Synonym of the words uneasy, unquiet, irritable, testy, fretful, violent, hot, curt, brusque, abrupt, hasty, impetuous, precipitate, and sudden. Antonym of the word calm. Adderpaw is painfully impatient. He loathes waiting of any kind, and wants what he wants at that very second. It's difficult for him to let anything just be the way it is, especially when it comes to healing. He wants his and Dawnheart's patients to get better as soon as they can, and is easily frustrated when things don't go as planned.
#9 - enthusiastic, an adjective meaning full of or characterized by enthusiasm; ardent. Synonym of the words eager, fervent, zealous, passionate, vehement, fervid, and impassioned. Adderpaw is enthusiastic about everything he does. He loves his Clan and the cats in it with every cell in his body, and wants very much to serve them in any way he possibly can. He wants to be the best at what he does, and listens exceptionally well when he can make himself sit down long enough for someone to teach him something. He's an extremely bright, friendly little tom cat and is eager to make friends with everyone in ThunderClan, from the tiniest kit to the most ancient elder, and won't give up easily if they don't share that desire.
#10 - foolhardy, an adjective meaning recklessly or thoughtlessly bold; foolishly rash or venturesome. Synonym of the words impetuous, headlong, heedless, and incautious. Adderpaw is dangerously foolhardy. This is partly because he is eager to explore and partly because he fears absolutely nothing, no matter how harmful or toxic it really is. He is highly prone to take unnecessary risks for a variety of reasons; sometimes it's on his own behalf, other times he's completing a task requested of him 'his own' way, which is 'obviously' better. He simply will not listen to anyone who tells him something is too big or too hard or too dangerous. In fact, saying so will probably pique his interest more, not less.
#11 - confident, an adjective meaning a) having strong belief or full assurance; sure, b) sure of oneself; having no uncertainty about one's own abilities, correctness, successfulness, ect.; self-confident; bold, and c) excessively bold; presumptuous. Synonym of the words certain, positive, sure, self-reliant, assured, and intrepid. Aynonym of the words modest and diffident. Adderpaw is confident, both in himself and in his Clanmates. He believes in the best of all of them, believing their words to be true even if everyone else seems to think it's a lie. He also believes strongly in the power and will of StarClan, trusting his warrior ancestors the way a young kit will not question the actions of his parents.
#12 - daredevil, an adjective meaning recklessly daring. Adderpaw is very much a daredevil. As mentioned before, he is known for taking risks that simply are not necessary for any reason whatsoever. He has zero concept of danger, which is probably why he seems so brave to other cats. If someone, anyone, even those outside of his own Clan challenges him in any way, he will go to great lengths in order to prove his worth. This is helpful when Dawnheart needs a specific type of herb only found in remote and untrodden territory and has to send Adderpaw out to retreive it, for he will do so without thought to personal injury. There is literally nothing this apprentice will not do for the sake of his own pride.
History ;; Kit. Young Adderpaw was born to two ThunderClan warriors. His father, Barkslash, was an older warrior and his mother, Sageice, was one of the eldest queens in the nursery. Despite his parents' age, he and his sister, who his parents named Yellowkit, were their first litter. Barkslash and Sageice were both extremely proud of their children, but later, when Adderkit and Yellowkit were just a little older and learned their father had once left for a period of time to live with Two-legs, they became embarrassed by their parents. Adderkit was the leader of the two kits, and Yellowkit loved and admired her 'elder' brother fiercely. She was the most excited when Adderkit expressed his desire to be a medicine cat.
Apprentice. Adderpaw will always remember one of the most exciting days of his life was the day he and Yellowkit were awarded their apprentice names. The brazen little kit had already alerted both Dawnheart and Lightstar of his desire to be a medicine cat, making sure neither of them had any doubt that it was what he wanted to do. Yellowpaw went on to be trained as a warrior, and the two have retained a close bond. That is, until the day that Adderpaw was seen tearing into a RiverClan apprentice who had attempted to stop him from treating one of his Clanmates, unaware that it was part of his job. Yellowpaw, startled by her brother's verocity, has drifted away from him, straining their relationship as siblings.

RP Sample ;; Adderstar hated staying in camp. Even when she had been a tiny kit who had just managed to wander outside the nursery, she absolutely hated staying in camp. There was such a big world out there; all the different kinds of prey, all the colors and their tints and shades, all the interesting plants...even the predators; the foxes, the badgers, the dogs, fascinated her. She had never been afraid of new things, and every day out in the forest was like the first time her mother had taken her out there. No two patrols were ever alike; even if you never met an enemy warrior, the prey was never hiding in the same spot, and a twig that had been whole before now lay snapped in two, broken by a careless creature that may or may not have been another cat.
When she was young, she remembered seeing Spiderstar, her predecessor, sleeping soundly in his den at almost all parts of the day. The ruddy apprentice had always thought that was silly, wasting every one of those nine lives away when the entire territory practically belonged to them. When Irontooth, her mentor, told her that was what leaders always did, that they didn't go on patrols unless there was something important, she'd been shocked. Why? Surely the Clan wouldn't be completely helpless if their leader went out hunting a few times. It had put a bit of a damper on the lean she-cat's ambition, but obviously not nearly enough to scare her away. She was leader now, and she would go out hunting whether the elders liked it or not.
It was the beginning of a beautiful day, she noticed, though she was not the sort to sit and stare at the clouds despite her interest in where they came from. The sun, like a blazing lion slowly lifting its head to see what was going on, was taking its time as it rose. But the air had long since lost the nip of leaf-fall and the chill of leaf-bare and it wasn't the slightest bit cold, nor was it warm. Dew still clung to the green leaves of the trees, and as Adderstar trotted (for she never truly walked anywhere) along, she left behind small imprints on the damp grass where the moisture had changed hosts. She paused once or twice to shake the water from her paws, flicking it aside with a slight, irritated curl of her lip.
The birds in the mighty tree were audible even from a distance, chirping and tweeting encouragement to the sun. Adderstar's keen ears flicked, and out of habit she swiped a salmon pink tongue over her muzzle in anticipation of the hunt. Birds, though quicker than most other prey, were probably the dumbest creatures she could think of, though they were closely followed by Twolegs' dogs. Only an extremely stupid beast would announce their whereabouts in the loudest, most obvious way. They were always making noise and only stopped after it was too late, when they heard their predator move or shuffle. By that time, most warriors and a few skilled apprentices would've already pounced.
Adderstar stopped at the base of the tree, one small paw poised in midstep as she turned her golden eyes to the top. She could even see them, fluttering this way and that, casting flitting shadows across the dapple of the sunlight through the leaves. Eagerly she licked her lips again; FogClan's freshkill pile was relatively full, but a nice starling or a finch would certainly be a nice treat for the queens. Claws poked from their sheaths and curled into the earth as the she-cat prepared to leap, then dug deep into the bark of the tree with a soft crunch. She scrambled several foxlengths up the tree until she reached the lowest branch, where she paused to look down as well as listen for the birds that had suddenly gone very quiet.
She stifled a purr. Yes, the forest always felt new.
